- Here's the reason I've heard:

- For the same reason flags are reversed on (hmmm, left or right...) the
- right hand side of planes. Imagine the shuttle (or plane) as one big flag,
- with the stars towards the front of the shuttle. So looking at the
- flag/shuttle from the left side, the flag looks right. Stepping around to
- the right side, the you would see the back side of the flag/shuttle, and it
- would be reversed.

- So just think of the shuttle as a darn thick flag.
