- Seriously though, I think that a good metric is that if the person is
- disruptive enough to harm the work of the other people in the department,
- then they should not be granted tenure. Of course, it might be the
- case that the whole rest of the department is made up of "jerks", and
- our lonely tenure-seeking person is the "decent human being". In that
- case, it might not seem fair, but a person given a guaranteed job for
- life must be able to work with the group of people that are there. If
- that means they ALL have to be jerks, then so be it!
