- People fear what they don't understand. Nuclear processes are even more
- incomprehensible to most people than chemical processes. Although more deaths
- have been and are caused by the latter, the former tend to be more spectacular.
- Also, we are more familiar with chemical processes--we're fairly confident that
- we won't unknowingly be exposed to deadly chemicals (whether true or not) and
- believe that low doses of dangerous chemicals are unlikely to have long term
- negative effects (again, whether true or not).

- There won't be any until people are educated properly on the matter.
- Overreacting to peoples concerns about radioactivity, though, is more likely to
- convince them you're a pro-nuke zealot than an objective source of information.
-
- Yes, the threat of radioactive sources in smoke detectors and compact
- flourescents is incredibly small. But that doesn't mean one should belittle
- those concerned about it. Calmly present the facts and the issue is laid to
- rest. Don't rant and rave about anti-nuke hysteria unless you want to promulgate
- it.
