  13. About 10 or 15 years ago, I remember reading advertising literature from
  14. a company called Wanlass.  They had invented a unique kind of transformer
  15. and power supply (with the trademark of Paraformer or Parax?).  This
  16. transformer was built differently than ordinary transformers, in that
  17. one winding was rotated 90 degrees from another winding.  The literature
  18. went into the theory of how this transformer utilized a "parametric"
  19. term in the transformer equations, which in most other cases was ignored.
  20. (If I'm not quite right on these details, it has been a long time since
  21. I have seen the literature.)  The transformer was claimed to have
  22. better regulation than other transformers.

  24. Does anyone remember this company or have any of their literature?  This
  25. is strictly a curiosity search to satisfy a discussion among my fellow
  26. engineers.

  28. I called a company which had bought the patent rights and the name
  29. "Paraformer":  Adtech Power in Anaheim CA, but the engineer there said that
  30. they had been bought and sold several times and that the paraformer
  31. technology was "dead".  He didn't have any information on it.  I suppose
  32. that todays switch-mode power supplies have eliminated the need for the
  33. paraformer technology.
