- Macrovision promoted two new copy protection schemes at a trade
- show last year. According to Search Technology (305-745-9992),
- a maker of expensive copy protection killers, there are two
- new strategies:
-
- - changing the pedestal level in the horizontal blanking interval.
- This has already shoem up on some video tapes (Disney?)
-
- - adding noise to, or phase modulating the color bust signal. This
- was deemed too noisy for consumer videotape protection, since the
- S/N is shit anyway. But they promotef it as a way of preventing
- subscribers from taping cable programs.
-
- The above render all Macrovision killers instantly obsolete.
-
- Search makes a $300 box which fixes all the above.
