- I was one of a group of about a half-dozen first-time marathoners who
- followed Galloway's schedule successfully in training for a marathon in
- California in May '84 (we actually used a plan from a late '83 article in
- Runners' World, not his later book, which describes a very similar
- program). The program worked well for me, and I finished pretty close to my
- goal (3:50:22 vs 3:45), although there definitely was a wall out there (my
- longest training run, three weeks before the race, was 21-22 miles).

- Tried to follow a similar training plan for the Marine Corps Marathon in
- 1986, but job situation and other conflicts precluded being as faithful to
- the plan as before. East coast humidity did me in (76 degrees, 90% RH :()
- and I dnf'd. Since I'm still on the East coast and have no confidence in
- the dependability of the weather, I'll stick to 10k-10 mile events
- hereafter.
