- NO: it is time to give up that doctor altogether!

- What that doctor is saying is "I am not willing to work with you to find the
- problem so you will just have to avoid the activity that causes the problem to
- show up." If your knee was hurting when you walked would he say just to give up
- walking rather than looking for the root cause? I hope not.

- I believe rest will heal the symptoms, but it will not address the cause. I am
- not a doctor so I will not try to diagnose you over the net, but runners often
- end up having to be their own doctor because of attitudes like this on the part
- of lazy physicians. You must both educate yourself enough to be your own
- doctor, and look for a better physician; preferably one who is a runner. I
- would talk to friends who are runners for recommendations. A podiatrist who is
- a runner might be your best chance.

- You should find the book "The runner's repair manual" to start being your own
- doctor. Knee problems in runners very often result from imbalanced muscle
- development, so your answer may lie in the weight room. Alternatively, it might
- be a foot problem and your answer may lie in different shoes or orthotics.
-
- Your problem almost certainly has a cause and a solution. Stopping running is
- not a solution. It avoids the problem.
-
- Good luck,
- Tom
