- Running folks --
-
- I am a VERY new runner who has just discovered this newsgroup, which
- looks useful even if some of the topics are a little advanced for me.
- I do have a few novice questions that I am hoping you experienced
- runners can help me with.
-
- o One thing that mystifies me is how, in the absence of mileage
- signs, you figure out how far you have run. Do you start with
- the length of time you ran and work backwards to the mileage?
- If so, how do you compensate for differences in terrain, for
- example running track versus city streets versus low rolling
- hills? (I live in Boston (Dorchester) and commute to work in
- Marlborough, and all of these are potential routes for me.)
-
- o I would like to do some reading on running. A coworker who
- also runs has loaned me on her copy of Jim Fixx's "The Complete
- Book of Running" as a starting point. Are there other books
- that you would recommend? (I do plan to print and read the
- updated running FAQ that will be posted next week.)
-
- o I assume that there must be some specialty stores in the
- metropolitan Boston area that focus on runners; i.e., runners'
- supplies, clothing, shoes, equipment, books (as opposed to
- athletic shoe/equipment stores with a multisport focus.) Any
- recommendations?
-
- Any info will be greatly appreciated.
-
- Thanks,
- Karen
