- Great! I too was sent to Los Alamos after years of running in the
- flatlands.

- I was running about 40 miles a week before I moved to Los Alamos
- (actually to White Rock, which is a good 1000 feet lower than Los
- Alamos) and my first week was really hard. After about 2 weeks I
- started to feel better, and I think I was pretty much back to my
- normal exertion level within a month.

- I did a race about a month and a half after I moved, and I was really
- feeling it towards the end :) However, one must also take into
- account that I'd been running fewer miles due to the increased
- altitude...in a shorter race a month later I felt pretty good. BTW,
- as you might imagine there is not a plethora of races to choose from
- in Los Alamos, as it's quite isolated from the rest of the world.
- There's a running club there, and there's a big race in the
- summertime. I remember Frank Shorter came once, gave a talk and ran
- the 5K.

- Just run, you should feel good after running all those mountains in LA
- :)

- Not many sand dunes out in Los Alamos, there's some beautiful forest
- there. Some nice trails (hilly!) out near the ski lift starting near the
- weight/exercise building. If you are out in the White Rock area,
- the terrain is a bit different, but nonetheless amazingly scenic. I
- don't know of any other place where one can run amid beautiful trees,
- a myriad of rock formations, and at the same time see ancient Indian
- petroglyphs and bits of 500 yeard old pottery scattered amidst the
- trails.
-
- Enjoy...
