  13. My wife bought me a Hobby Shack Birdie 40 for Father's Day and,
  14. after a very hot summer in Southern Nevada, I'm finally getting
  15. it together.

  17. It looks like it'll be a pretty nice airplane, nice lines, semi
  18. semmetrical airfoil, long moments should make for a smooth flyer.
  19. It'll be powered with a Magnum Pro .45. The plane is ready to
  20. cover now and I have a few comments.

  22. It would be nice if Hobby Shack would supply the kit with plans
  23. printed on only one side of the sheet. As supplied, the fuse views
  24. are on one side and wing and stab are on the other. Balsa supplied
  25. tended to the hard side but not as hard as some of the Hobby
  26. Dynamics kits and was workable. ***ALL SPAR STOCK WAS ARROW-STRAIGHT!
  27. Plywood supplied for formers, firewall and engine mount was not very
  28. good quality wood. Die cutting of balsa parts was excellent.

  30. Construction is essentially conventional with no major problems
  31. encountered, instructions were easy to follow but somewhat lacking
  32. in the kind of step-by-step illustrations we enjoy in Goldberg
  33. and Sig kits.

  35. The wing root is but joined then covered with 1/8" ply on both
  36. sides. Plans do not call for glassing the wing root and with the
  37. ply going across, it seems plenty strong. I think I'll try it 
  38. without glass and see how it holds together.

  40. If this plane flies as good as it builds, then for $50 it's really
  41. a bargain. Hobby Shack just sent around a flyer with a special
  42. price on this plane for September of $45.

  44. This will be the first Birdie .40 to be seen at our field. I expect
  45. with the new price, we'll see some more.
  46.  
  47. Anybody in Netland have any experience with this plane? Let us all
  48. know whether it's any good or not.
