- In a previous article, kc@clark.edu (Kevin Carrigan) says:
-
- >I'm currently building my first plane. It's a CG Eagle 2.
- >I have a question how stiff can the aleron movement be? I don't
- >have the radio so I can't see if the servo could move it. What happened
- >was the rod that moves the alerons is held in place by a piece of balsa
- >that is glued on over it. Well, later when I was gluing on this nylon
- >thing to smothes out the gap between wing halves glue got in the whole
- >and froze it completely. I was able to free it, but now it's a bit stiff.
- >Should I redo this part, or lube it or let it be. Thanks...

- Definitely redo it. If your control surfaces are too stiff, you'll strain
- your servo, resulting in a shortened life of the servo, increase current
- draw for the servo which will drain your flight pack battery, increasing
- liklihood of a crash. Redo the part. Control surfaces should all move
- freely. Tight or binding ailerons, elevators, rudder can also fail to
- return to center properly, resulting in some interesting aerial effects
- and a very exciting and short flight for you.
-
- By the time you get done with it, you are going to have a couple of
- hundred bucks in your airplane. You owe it to yourself to minimize
- the problems.
