- The Rotel 955 is considered to be (by audiophile magazines, most high end
- dealers) the best CD player in its price range. Best sound, and also good
- mechanical quality. It's generally considered better than the more expensive
- Rotel 965. It lists for $450, but is normally available for about $400. To do
- better you have to go to about $800 (JVC 1050, CAL Icon, Sonograph(?)).
- Cheaper, there is an NAD unit that lists for $300 and is pretty good, but I
- compared it to the Rotel and found the Rotel to sound better, and to be more
- solidly built. If you don't mind used equipment, the Rotel 855 (last years
- model) is almost identical, except cosmetically, to the 955, and may be
- available for around $250 or so, used.
