- Then how much will they cost? If they're not a tape that is already
- made (and "properties are more like video tapes" doesn't imply a tape
- that factories are already set up for), there's no reason to believe
- they'll be cheap.
-
- I don't know how much they will cost, but speculations are that the price will
- be the same as ordinary compact cassettes. The introduction price will
- probably be some higher. But as I said, I don't know exactly.
-
- Having used analog tapes for many decades, we have some idea how they
- degrade. Since there do not exist DCC tapes that are more than 5
- years old (and probably none that old), there is no experience in how
- they degrade.
-
- But a lot of experience is there for video tapes.
-
- I bought a dat deck (Sony D3 dat walkman) for $500; I've seen decks
- for less than that. The catalog I saw DCC in said more like $900.
-
- Speculation, speculation. By the way, introduction prices will probably higher
- than 'normal' prices. DAT had long way passed it's introduction, so I guess
- your comparison will change some time later.

- I thought your interest was in copying CDs?
-
- Please read; my FIRST interest is copying CDs.
-
- >And hey, isn't this all about being satisfied? Have you heard DCC your own?
- >Can you judge how it sounds after copying 100 times?
-
- No, I haven't heard it, and I'm not likely to. Why should I move to a
- format that sounds worse than the ones I have, and offers no
- conveniences?
-
- Ahah. Here we can read the final clue. You already made an opinion about DCC
- sound, even when you haven't heard it. You seem to hear what you think you
- will hear. I guess this will make a fair judgement rather difficult for you
- later.
-
- And what about conveniences? Do you know about the conveniences of DCC? I
- don't think so.
-
- In some respects DCC sounds better than conventional DAT or CD. No audible
- quantization noise at low sound levels. Try for that one with your DAT!
-
- Again, my purpose is not to promote DCC at all. It is just that I hate to see
- people talk about things they don't know about or haven't heard, and seem to
- made have their final judgement already.
-
- It's not worth discussing anymore...
