- As an owner of both a Revox B77 Mark II and a Panasonic SV-3900 DAT, I've
- had opportunities to do some comparisons between the two.
-
- Each medium has its strengths and weaknesses, but I would say that the
- Revox does more than just hold its own when it's properly tweaked for
- maximum performance. Having heard some of the less expensive consumer
- DATs, I would have to say that anyone who thinks that a "$600 home DAT"
- makes better recordings than *any* analog(ue) deck in the world is not
- very experienced with reel-to-reel analog(ue) recorders.
-
- (My comments are based on work with my Revox; that doesn't even get us
- into the rarified heights of some of the custom analog(ue) units, such
- as those used by engineers like David Wilson, David Manley, James Boyk,
- and others.)
-
- Analogue does have its challenges, which are well known, but done properly,
- it is a remarkable medium.
