- You have to have some culture to put into the weekly
- and there is little happening here relative to LA-
- three main sparsely booked performance centers, a fair number
- of civic stage and music groups.
- Relatively politically uniform compared to LA, so not as much
- an audience for muckraking articles.

- I lived near San Jose for many years which was in a similar
- position relative to SF. However, they managed a couple of
- lively weeklies with both the sparse entertainment scene there
- and a fair amount of muckraking.
