- Where do you find shorter fiction response times than that? Among
- publishers of children's books, as I know to my sorrow, they are often much
- longer. I generally figure anything over three months is too long, but I
- too don't inquire until six months.

- By the way, I have never had any but a polite (usually not too helpful, but
- polite) response to a telephoned inquiry to a book publisher after six
- months. And at least you make contact with a person, while your letter may
- sit unanswered for another six months.
