  20. With your background, there may not be much salary difference.  However, I 
  21. strongly  suggest that you closely analyze the reasons why you think moving 
  22. to tech writing might restore freshness to your career.  One of the 
  23. traditional disadvantages of being a writer in a large technical 
  24. organization is that you are considered support rather than tech staff.  
  25. You know what that implies, right?  If you plan to be a *good* writer,  
  26. the change means going back to school, taking seminars, etc.   If you are 
  27. willing to do that, you might consider enhancing your software and 
  28. technical skills, instead of making a career change.  If you have hit a 
  29. wall in software, ask what you expect to be doing in tech writing after 
  30. the next eight years.
