Yes, but you were aware of what you were borrowing! FedEx received a package
of unknown value. How are they going to know the value?

As a price of doing business, they will accept automatic responsiblity for
the value up to a certain dollar limit. (All carriers do this.) If you want
more protection, you pay for it.

Your homeowner's/renter's insurance will cover jewelry, furs, etc only up
to a specified dollar amount and then you are required to add a rider to
your policy for more money.
