  41. the white historical perspective" on U.S. history.

  55. strategies. The first chapter describes the violent and  
  56. warring countries of Europe before the conquest and then  
  57. paints a portrait of the mosaic of cultures in the Western  
  58. Hemisphere at the same time. The chapter closes with graphic  
  59. depictions of the conquest and its consequences.

  62. Americans and by indigenous peoples throughout the Americas.  
  63. It closes with a brief look at "resistance today" in the  
  64. rainforests of South America. The third chapter contrasts  
  65. "the white way" and "the native way" and makes the point  
  66. that the cultural war begun by the Europeans in 1492 has  
  67. never ended.
