-
- Simple: MCI didn't have to pay AT&T to use it's long distance lines.
-
- Almost all third party carriers, except Sprint, use AT&T long distance
- lines. Up until January (of last year?), the breakup settlement imposed by
- Judge Green required AT&T to allow use of these facilities *without charge*.
-
- Sprint, being a subsidiary of GTE, has had access to GTE SpaceNet
- prior to geting their fiber optic network installed... under heavy access,
- you can still get a circuit through SpaceNet instead of fiber. In fact,
- you can ask for this for modem connections (Sprint's time division and
- frequency division multiplexing play hell with most modems).
-
- The concept of Boycotting AT&T is ridiculous unless one picks a long
- distance service that uses a common carrier service that isn't AT&T.
