- Hello everybody!
-
- Here in the Netherlands we have been discussing LPF lately and one of
- the subjects of discussion weas the precise goal of the LPF-nl to be.
-
- The LPF has the goal to fight UI-copyright and Software-patents.
-
- I have proposed for the Netherlands to make our goal: ``Against
- software monopolies''.
-
- My reasons are these:
- - Maybe some company thinks of other things to get the monopoly. We
- would be able to fight that according to our charter. It is not so
- much the instruments (UI-copyright/Software-patents) we despise, but the
- results. If there would be a modus where those would not lead to
- monopolies, what the hack? But we are of course of the opinion that
- there is no way you can make software patents and UI copyright work
- without having the disastrous effect. In fact, the proof then has to
- come from the other side. They have to proof that monopolies are not
- inevitable, instead of the other way around.
- - It prevents more or less that it is very easy to align software
- copyright issues with UI-copyright and software-patents. People against
- some form of ``protection'' (I know, I know) are immediately seen as
- people who are in favour of piracy and cracking etc. Being against
- monopolies is a very respectful standpoint.
-
- Comments are welcome.
