- Dear GCC Help-Group : We are a small start-up company interested
- in distributing GCC with our hardware product.
- We are in the design stages of producing a PC
- add-in board EISA/ISA bus compatible, utilizing
- an R4000 CPU. We are also contemplating an i860
- product at a later date. There are some general
- questions, we have about GCC involving its
- performance, and preprocessor ability with
- respect to the R400, as well as to the i860. The
- questions we have are:
-
-
- 1) The GCC info docs imply that GCC can
- be configured for the R4000. What kind
- of bugs can we expect and is the
- configuration really optimized so as
- to be competitive with commercially
- available compilers such as that from
- Greenhills, Microway, or Laheigh etc.
-
- Which architecture (i860 or R4000) is the
- GCC compiler best suited for?
-
- 2) Does the GCC preprocessor provide
- optimization support for the R4000,
- or i860. Specifically : vectorization,
- loop-unrolling. Does it produce code that
- runs in an efficient pipe-lined manner?
-
- 3) Can we obtain LINPAC ratings for the
- routines SSDOT, DDOT running on the i860
- and the R4000. If not the R4000,
- then the R3000. Can we get these
- ratings with and without optimization.
-
- 4) Does the Open Software Foundation provide
- a Fortran compiler.
-
- 5) Will GCC be available for a Windows-NT
- environment in the near future. If not
- what will be the magnitude of a project
- to adapt it to Windows NT.
-
-
- I appreciate any help and information that you can
- provide us in these areas. If our product comes to fruition, we would
- very much like to make an arrangement with your organization to
- distribute the GCC compiler with our product. I can also be reached
- at the following E-Mail addresses.*
-
-
- Sincerely,
-
- Anthony Pearson
