- Dear emacs,
-
- emacs-18.58 did not run successfully on a 3b1 running the unix
- V 3.5 OS. The machine has 4Meg of RAM and a 40 Meg hard disk, 30%
- free. I thought I did everything right. I ran
-
- make install.sysv
-
- after selecting the m- and s- files corresponding to the 3b1 7300.
- The last step of installation did not take place, I got the error
- message
- "cannot load cpset."
- So I moved $BUILD/src/xemacs to /usr/local/bin/emacs
- and when I type
- emacs
- I get the error message
- "cannot load termcap database."
- But there is a file called
- /etc/termcap
- I'm not sure it's the right one. If there is a correct one can you
- send the termcap file to me!
-
- I then tried it again after commenting out the last few lines
- of the m-7300.h file. Now I get error messages like
- "Memory fault"
- or
- "Bus Error"
-
- I was optimistic that emacs would compile on the 3b1 since
- Stallman had made an entry in the Changelog in 1989.
-
- By the way, I am only interested in running emacs on a 3b1 if
- the 3-button mouse can be enabled to cut, copy and paste as one can in
- the X-Windows emacs. If you know that this is impossible, I'd be glad
- to abandon the project.
-
- Thanks,
- Bill Richter
