- Hello
-
- We have a bunch of 286 and 386 PC's in our group that are sitting
- around doing nothing. Management wants to put them to use in a
- situation where they run X windows to run applications on Unix
- machines (Sun's, Sequents, etc). These Unix machines are powerfull enough
- to keep several X based applications running. The mode of X window stuff
- that we have is open look.
-
- Because my management is tight on spending money (you must go up to a
- senior VP to get approval to event get a $200 piece of software) I
- am wondering if there is some public domain stuff out there available
- via anonymous ftp (we do have C compilers and engineering time to use to
- compile/hack something together).
-
- I believe we need two things; one, a decent tcp/ip package including
- drivers for 3Com and Ungermann Bass (3Com is our primary choice; the
- Ungerman Bass are only a few); and a version of X window server
- software that will work with VGA graphics. Even if you know of stuff
- that does not work perfectly, and it is in source, we would still be
- interested because I can allways find time between idiotic managment
- meetings and other nausium to hack at it until it works enough to
- fill our requirements.
-
- Thanks!
