- I never noticed this before, but the openwin script doesn't care what you set your
- DISPLAY environment variable to - once in OW3.0, this variable
- will invariably contain the default: ":0" (or what follows the '-display' option
- when invoking openwin...in any event, there's a comment in openwin script stating
- "complain if $DISPLAY doesn't begin with ':'). Is this common knowledge? I never
- had any problems (ie. my DISPLAY never changed) on my machine - I think because
- I define my own XINITRC file - but I noticed it when I tried running an application
- which requires DISPLAY to be set to something (unix:0.0 or hostname:0.0) on a
- Sun SPARCstation that just had OW3.0 installed.
-
- What alternatives are there for having this set - aside from constantly setting
- it on the command-line when invoking openwin (or writing an alias or script?) The
- solution has to work for a "naive" user.
-
- Sorry if this is a FAQ (or if I'm just totally off-base). Thanks for any suggestions,
- Tom
