- I'm doing a little survey. If you have developed real products using
- different window systems or toolkits, which window system do you think
- is easiest for develpers to program and why (specifically)? My metric
- is total design and development time for similar applications.
-
- Some possible reasons for one window being more productive are:
-
- 1. more sophisticated window system development tools
- 2. more constructs/abstractions in window system toolkit
- 3. programming constructs are higher level
- 4. good integration between high level and low level constructs
- 5. good integration with programmer's development environment
- 6. good documentation
- 7. base operating system provides better development environment
-
- The windows systems/toolkits in which I'm most interested are:
-
- 1. Microsoft Windows
- 2. Macintosh
- 3. Motif for UNIX workstations
- 4. NeXT
-
- I'm interested in your experience either using the API to the above
- through code or through some UI builder or UIMS, but I'm only
- interested in real world products, not school projects for limited user
- bases.
-
- Remember, the metric is not "which is more fun", but is "which helped
- you ship your product in the shortest amount of time". Please be as
- specific as you can and consider this to be an opportunity to suggest
- improvements to your favorite window system. Please, no flames or
- speculations from people who have not developed products with more than
- one window system. Post your input here or e-mail to me. I will
- summarize any e-mail responses. Thanks for your help.
