- At our University we have had the problem to buy new equipment,
- so we have had testet many ones, so here my opinions:
- ( I belive prices are in USA lower than in Germany, sorry if higher than limit )
-
- Good Machine: HP705 Color, very fast machine for that price
- bad : SYSTEM V, new,so headache's by porting are programmed.
- If you want only BSD-look, you can get some GNU-Stuff to satisfy
- your needs
-
- Good BSD: Dec's, their ULTRIX is BSD with sysv extensions, in X-performance
- a little bit slow.
-
- Data General: Not Well-Known, but also fast. Shipped cc is gnu-cc
-
- AIX: forget it, their licence-politic is f***ing
- The have nice features, but not so good implemented
- fast, but...
-
- Sun: only good (IMHO) with SunOs pre Solaris, much pd-Software,
- also replacements for buggy programms.
-
-
- Hope this helps a little bit
