- I've recently started using DECwindows/Motif V1.1.3. I have a couple
- of comments and questions.
-
- 1. Unless I'm doing something wrong, dxterm seems to have problems
- with -x-y geometry specifications. (+x+y works okay.) I tried the
- following command:
-
- % dxterm -ls -geometry 80x25-0-0
-
- The command creates a dxterm, but it's in the upper left corner.
- Other -x-y specifications create other strange effects. This works fine
- for xterm, so I think I'm using the numbers correctly. Am I correct or
- is there a way around this problem?
-
- 2. If you use the Save Options command off dxterm, defaults.DECterm
- ends up with a line containing the following:
-
- DXterm.geometry:
-
- When you try to startup a dxterm with this line in defaults.DECterm,
- you get the following:
-
- X Toolkit Warning: Shell widget "dxterm" has an invalid geometry specification:
- "LL"
-
- 3. dxsession starts up Mwm without stdout. This creates problems when
- you try to start applications that issue messages (like dxterm when
- the above bogus geometry specification is in defaults.DECterm). In the
- case of dxterm, you get a process, but no window. Other applications
- just die. I got around the problem by putting the following line in
- .Xdefaults:
-
- Dxsession.windowManagerName: /usr/bin/mwm > & /dev/console
-
- Now applications startup and messages end on the console the way they
- used to.
-
- 4. It would be really nice if dxterm (and dxclock) used .Xdefaults
- like other X applications. I usually end up copying defaults.DECterm
- or .DXclock into .Xdefaults. Anyone know of a better way to do this?
-
- Thanks.
