Hello,
I'm looking for advice on getting started with the use of computers with music. I'm interested specifically in the following:
- musical notation entry for writing and printing music scores
- sampling and controlling keyboard instruments using MIDI
My hardware is a ISC-2.2.1 UNIX-based 386 box, and a dot matrix printer. I also have access to the DOS world via VP/ix.
Can someone offer advice on the following:
- extra hardware that I need (for the MIDI interface, I suppose)?
- software, either public domain or commercial, and either UNIX or DOS?
- books on the subject?
I apologise if this request sounds like a catch-all, but I am a complete beginner to the field of electronic music. Alternatively, is this stuff covered by a FAQ?
Please email responses, as I don't have a News feed. I'll summarise responses, if there is sufficient interest.
