- -=>I'm having some problems with the new SCO 3.2r4.1, and would
- -=>appreciate some help. The system works fine normally *if I'm running
- -=>something*, but if I log out from all the multiscreens (leaving just a
- -=>getty on each screen), the systems locks up totally in a few minutes.
- -=>By "locks up" I mean that nothing happens, the keyboard is quite dead
- -=>(I don't have a serial terminal so I can't check whether it's just the
- -=>multiscreens that zonk). I tried the keyboard lockup fix found in the
- -=>Troubleshooting section of the SysAdm manual -- no effect. This is
- -=>getting to be really annoying, so far I've "solved" it by running
- -=>something, usually u386mon, in one of the multiscreens.
- -=>
- -=>Some info about the system:
- -=>
- -=>- "generic" 386/33 box, 8MB RAM, 64k cache, 330 MB ESDI disk,
- -=> Paradise 1024 VGA, serial/parallel I/O card.
- -=>- MS4.1 installed.
- -=>- TCP/IP 1.1.3 installed, but not active at the moment
- -=>- Development system 3.2.4 installed
- -=>- Some kernel parameter modifications, including screen blanker on
- -=> (in 15 mins), ETRUNC 1, etc. All well within the /etc/conf/cf.d/mtune
- -=> limits.
- -=>- Getty running on only the first 4 multiscreens.

- I had a client that had a similiar problem with SCO 3.2.4 but he
- was on a 486, come to find out, with the aid of those good fellows
- over at UniPrompt ( Orl, Fl), the ram speed was a major colprit.
- He was running 80ns 1mg X 3 chips and after increasing the speed
- to 60ns, everything was a little easier.
-
- Heres the thing:
-
- When I re-installed SCO 3.2.2 on the 386 with 8 mgs ( 80ns) { and just
- for test's sake } it worked fine!! I honestly thought i had a corrupt
- OS.
-
- My point is this: Re-test all equipment, make sure your working with
- stable hardware...
