- You need the root password to enter single-user mode too.

- If they had relaxed security, it's easy: boot from a floppy, mount the hard
- drive on the floppy, make a safety copy of the hd's /etc/shadow file, edit
- /etc/shadow to remove the password string.

- If they were using C2, then the encrypted password for root is in the hard
- drive's /tcb/files/auth/r/root file instead.
