  31. Thanks for the info.  This fits with something else I'm seeing.  A
  32. friend has tried several times to log in to my system with his USR
  33. Sportster modem.  It works OK for several minutes, then all of a
  34. sudden my system starts receiving spurts of complete garbage, as you
  35. describe above.  Perhaps there *is* something wrong with my modem...
  36.
