- I spent a couple of hours last night talking to the ZyXEL BBS
- using a Telebit WB at 14,400 on my end. Presumably, the ZyXEL
- BBS is running with ZyXEL modems and latest firmware.
-
- Each connection I made there would last anywhere from 10-20 minutes.
- After that, the ZyXEL would start outputting garbage (but wouldn't
- drop the line). The garbage was different than line noise. You
- could type a command but the output would be *completely* garbled
- (including high order characters, etc.) with nothing recognizable.
- I tried forcing a retrain, (+++, ATO1) but that didn't stop the garbage.
- I had to hang up the line and call again (many times!).
-
- If you ask me, there are some bugs in the ZyXEL modem.
-
- This garbage would be enough to choke UUCP or any other comms program.
-
- Thanks for the info. This fits with something else I'm seeing. A
- friend has tried several times to log in to my system with his USR
- Sportster modem. It works OK for several minutes, then all of a
- sudden my system starts receiving spurts of complete garbage, as you
- describe above. Perhaps there *is* something wrong with my modem...
