  17. The modem should have dip switches or jumpers to set it as a particular
  18. port and IRQ.  This means that sending data to that com port will go to
  19. the modem.  You are rather vague about which UNIX you are using but on
  20. my ESIX SVR4 system the serial ports have device names like:

  23.     /dev/tty02s
  24.     /dev/tty02h

  26. my modem was set up as com3 IRQ5 and sending any data to /dev/tty02 went
  27. to my modem (the numbers are 1 out of step so /dev/tty00 is com1 &c).
  28. Nothing has to be done to setup UNIX specially for the modem if the serial
  29. ports themselves are already setup.
