  14.   Although this isn't exactly the right group I thought someone might
  15. know 
  16. the answer. On a sequent running ptx. vi does weird things with @ and #
  17. and 
  18. maybe other letters. It treats them like some sort of control characters. 
  19. This doesn't happen on any other system I've come across. I have to quote 
  20. these characters with ^v in order to insert them. Is there any way of
  21. fixing this.

  23. Apart from using a reasonable editor. I'd love to: if there was a simple,
  24. small, 
  25. powerful and (I hope I don't offend too many people here but, non
  26. brain-dead 
  27. unix editor.) Since I may get flamed for saying this I might start with a
  28. flame 
  29. myself:-) I think if I need to read a manual to use a program then it is
  30. basically a 
  31. badly written program. 
  32. Vi doesn't even seem to have a manual, or not one that includes it's
  33. editing 
  34. commands. 
  35. Emacs is not only big and I'll probably have to learn it eventually but
  36. each time 
  37. I've used it, so far, I've had to log in on another session and kill it
  38. because I 
  39. couldn't figure out how to terminate it simply. 
  40. Pico doesn't have regular expression search/replace. Although it does
  41. have a spell 
  42. checker. 
  43. I'm not talking about any editor that only works on one terminal or
  44. console 
  45. (openwindows textedit) and not remotely.
