  18. FAQs are posted monthly rather than weekly or daily -- standard netiquette
  19. calls for you to read a group for a while before opening your mouth in it.

  23. Indeed we cannot assume that.  It might be his *newsadmin* who deserves
  24. the flame, for not pointing him to the periodically posted articles in
  25. news.announce.newusers.  (This doesn't have to require a personal talk
  26. with each new user; at a large site, it could be done automatically when
  27. new accounts with Usenet access are created, or when the news software is
  28. first used, or the like.)

  30. In the article "A Primer on How to Work With the Usenet Community", he
  31. would have read the following:

  34. |  shouldn't post to groups you do not read, or post to groups you've
  35. |  only read a few articles from -- you may not be familiar with the on-going
  36. |  conventions and themes of the group.  One normally does not join

  38. |  first and then join in if you have something pertinent to contribute.

  40. If these words aren't familiar to you, it's time *you* reviewed the
  41. documents for new users.

  44. well to politely quote the above passage, rather than flaming.
