  15. I have had some success with 386BSD - My machine is:

  17. 33MHz 386 with 128K cache and 8Mb of memory,
  18. Seagate ST1239a 211Mb drive (drive 0)
  19. ST152 44Mb drive (drive 1)
  20. IDE controller
  21. Orchid Prodesigner I (ET3000 based card)

  23. When I first tried to install the system (following the instructions from 
  24. lurch@ee.latrobe.edu.au) I encounter problems when creating the filesystems -
  25. the newfs command would just hang the machine.

  27. Luckily, I work where we have other hardware, so I built a machine consisting of
  28. another 33Mhz 386 board, my ST1239a drive, IDE controller and an OAK VGA card. This
  29. successfully installed and is now quite happy. I also installed X386 but it didn't
  30. seem to like the OAK card so I took my drive back home and tryed to boot of it.

  32. On power up, my machine checks the hardware successfully and beeps (as usual). The
  33. hard disk light then flashes very briefly and the machine trys to access the A: drive
  34. as if booting - the machine is then hung up.

  36. My question is Do I have a broken IDE controller at home ? It has worked fine for the
  37. past 9 months with DOS on the larger disk. Does BSD have a bug in its IDE interface ?
  38. Is my IDE card incompatible with BSD ?
