- I have the same configuration (with AIX 3.2). It was very easy to use SMIT to
- to configure the printer. It allows you to create 4 virtual printers, one for
- each file type that the printer accomodates (ASCII, PostScript, HPGL, PPDS).
- Once these are set up, all you have to do is specify the queue in the print
- request, and the printer backend (piobe) makes sure that the proper control
- sequence is sent for the printer to change modes. I NEVER have to touch the
- controls on the front panel of the printer. You can even set it up such that
- if someone prints an ASCII file to the PS queue, it handles that case
- appropriately.
