  18. Just by configuring virtual printers to the device. You can do this
  19. from "smit print", >"manage local subsystem", >"virtual printers".
  20. You can do some really slick things, like:

  31. Where you just send files to the appropriate queue, and AIX will send
  32. the proper initialization sequence to the 4029 to switch modes.

  34. Make sure the 4029 is configured properly, as well as the print device
  35. and queues. It sounds like maybe you don't have the virtual print
  36. devices properly configured, if automode select is not working.
  37.  
  38. You should be able to add virtual printers without deleting ones that
  39. already exist.

  41. You may check with your SE about getting the IBM redbook "Printing for
  42. Fun and Profit", which has a pretty good description of the printing
  43. system.
