There is suppose to be an APAR fix however...the way the selective fix stuff is implemented now vs the way 3.1 was distributed with clean fresh tapes, I'm not sure you can be sure that installing the fix will actually fix the problem. Anyway we've had the same problem. Sometimes it is because we don't have a terminal connected to our 520's so there's nowhere for the console output to go. This messes up the srcmaster and I believe inittab starts a second one (may be lots of other reasons though). Just y
esterday though I say a system with no srcmaster which seems to somehow be related to the IP/FDDI disconnect problem I outlined a couple of days ago. And we have seen the problem under other conditions than a missing console.
Anyway, the only thing you can do is bug your IBM rep and get the fix.
