- Here's an interesting question.
-
- Scenario:
-
- I have numerous machines from numerous vendors running different versions of
- UNIX. All support YP (NIS). I have one master server for NIS and all of the
- other machines are clients. I can therefore have it set up so that only one
- machine keeps the passwd file and all of the other machines use YP to get the
- passwd entries for the users (all users can log onto all machines). A user
- logs onto one of the machines and wants to change his/her passwd.
-
- 1. Is this allowed on any machine, or just the master where the "real" passwd
- file is?
-
- 2. If so, then the passwd program must be YP intelligent. Is this a possiblity?
-
- 3. If 1 and 2 are true then the passwd utility on each machine must be able to
- update the master and the maps? True??
-
- Or maybe I'm just living in a dream world??
