- Stahl Writes:
- [0]Well Mr. Tandy, why don't you supply the questioner with the
- [0]deskmate for the Model 4.
-
- I can't. That is a copyrighted product. Apart from being illegal, if I
- was caught, I would also be fired instantly. It is the same as stealing
- from a store.
-
-
- [0]This is what the termcap entry is that he has referenced.
- [0]That termcap did work with just fine.
-
- I REALIZE that was the termcap for DESKMATE TERMINAL. But that was the point.
- The original requestor had COMM, NOT DESKMATE, and wanted to use COMM.
- "I need a tire iron." "Ok, here is a refrigerator." Doesn't make sense to me.
-
-
- [0]It also could be copied to about any machine and also function.
- [0]Come on, help a poor computer user and get him a copy of deskmate
- [0]for the Model 4.
-
- I would recommend ANY other terminal emulator program for the Model 4,
- even some written in BASIC. Deskmate Terminal escape sequences are not
- compatible with any standard terminal type, and any data rate over 2400
- baud drops characters all the time. Even 2400 can be unreliable. The
- same holds true on the IBM PC side of the Deskmate street. On the other
- hand, I have run COMM reliably at 9600 baud and other, smarter packages
- at 9600 as well. I have even used COMM at 19,200 baud, but it dropped
- characters. Try DTERM at 9600 baud sometime and see what happens!
-
-
- Scott then writes:
- [1]Go to Radio Shack and order it. It should still be available. I think
- [1]it used to be $99. Seeing as how Deskmate is copyrighted, giving
- [1]people copies of it over the net would not be too smart.
-
-
- Stahl then Writes:
- [0]I tried to get it several months ago. It is no longer available.
-
- It may not be in the stores, but it may still be available via special
- order. Try asking for it that way. Some mail-order companies also carry
- older packages like this. Contact Computer News 80 or Pacific Computer
- Exchange.
-
- The XENIX Console Emualtor terminal package worked pretty well, but
- cost too much at the original $99.95. If you can find it for a lot
- cheaper (like $15), take it. The catalog number is 26-1599.
-
- There are shareware and public domain solutions too that work equally well
- if not better.
-
-
- [0]The person who gave the origunal answer works for Tandy.
- [0]Take a look at his mailbox address.
-
- Isn't that amazing? All that means is I have good reason to know the
- right answers to questions that are asked. Should I stop?
-
-
- [0]He **can** supply the software all legal. (if he wanted to). Good Luck!!
-
- No I CAN'T. Even if a product or book is out of print doesn't mean you
- can start handing copies of it out without asking permission from the
- publisher. IT'S ILLEGAL! In 47 years, it may be ok if Tandy doesn't
- renew the copyright. Until then, its infringement.
-
- Please read the US Copyright law, as you are apparently unfamiliar with it.
- Also be aware that the FBI and the SPA reads this net and would be quite
- interested in what you are suggesting.
