  35. Sisal (Streams and Iterations in a Single-Assignment Language) is a general-
  36. purpose functional language that supports the development of determinate, 
  37. machine-independent parallel software. The Sisal project has achieved 
  38. significant successes over the past nine years, in many areas of computer 
  39. science and parallel computing. Among these are the development of the Sisal 
  40. language and the IF1 intermediate dataflow graph representation, the 
  41. implementation of a runtime system for parallel execution on conventional 
  42. shared memory computers, optimizations for functional languages, the 
  43. achievement of Fortran-like performance, and the establishment of the Sisal 
  44. Scientific Computing Initiative. The latter of these has involved researchers 
  45. from many areas of science and engineering in the use of Sisal as an 
  46. application programming language. In this meeting we will discuss uses of the 
  47. language, the current state of the project, and its future directions.

  49. Who Should Attend?

  51. All Sisal users, implementers, and researchers, and those who are interested 
  52. in the Sisal language or functional programming are invited to attend this 
  53. meeting. We also welcome those involved in the various other aspects of 
  54. parallel computing.

  56. Call for Papers

  58. We invite submissions of extended abstracts of five to ten pages in length by 
  59. August 15, 1992. Decisions on acceptance will be made by September 1, 1992. 
  60. Full papers will be due at the conference, and will appear in a published 
  61. proceedings. Suggested topics include (but are not limited to) the following:

  65. *    Sisal execution platforms
  66. *    Sisal applications
  67. *    Sisal programming tools
  68. *    Research involving IF1
  69. *    Functional languages

  76. The cost of this conference is $150, and includes lunches both days and a 
  77. reception the first night. Guest lunch tickets are available.
