- Somebody correct me if the situation's changed lately, but when I was working
- for a Sun-clone company about a year and a half ago, we discovered that the
- Sony CD-ROM was NOT STANDARD. Of course not! It has a special Sun EPROM
- inside, in order to be bootable. (We proved that it was just the EPROM by
- switching EPROMs with a geniune Sun CD-ROM.) This means you cannot just go out
- and buy the appropriate Sony CD_ROM.
-
- Since the clone company is selling Solaris on a CD, they should also be able
- to get the special version of EPROM from Sun. What's more likely is that the
- clone company will try and sell you their CD-ROM.
-
- Why don't you try talking to Young Minds. They have a lot of in-depth knowledge
- of Sun CD-ROMs, and may be able to point you in the right direction.
