  34. Somebody correct me if the situation's changed lately, but when I was working
  35. for a Sun-clone company about a year and a half ago, we discovered that the
  36. Sony CD-ROM was NOT STANDARD. Of course not! It has a special Sun EPROM
  37. inside, in order to be bootable. (We proved that it was just the EPROM by
  38. switching EPROMs with a geniune Sun CD-ROM.) This means you cannot just go out
  39. and buy the appropriate Sony CD_ROM.

  41. Since the clone company is selling Solaris on a CD, they should also be able
  42. to get the special version of EPROM from Sun. What's more likely is that the
  43. clone company will try and sell you their CD-ROM.

  45. Why don't you try talking to Young Minds. They have a lot of in-depth knowledge
  46. of Sun CD-ROMs, and may be able to point you in the right direction.
