  14. I have two drives I'm having problems formatting. the smaller one is a
  15. Quantum 40S. I thought that one would be no problem, since I have a 105
  16. working nicely. but no luck. Gives me an error, upon partitioning, or
  17. something. does a low-level format aparently, and then error`s out on
  18. block 3 (0 relative), "vendor-specific error: illegal command" , or
  19. variations on a theme.

  21. ALSO.. there's this Fujitsu THING, M2246E, with an "ASDI" SCSI bridgecard
  22. on it. This one I KNOW it is possible to use, cause I was using it. then
  23. it developed some bad sectors, so I tried to reformat it. It gave the
  24. same error as the Quantum! errored out.
  25. Now this Fujitsu is really wierd, cause I called Fujitsu, got them to fax
  26. me the complete specs on it, bytes per track, jumper settings, the whole
  27. shebang. I've got it set for hard sectoring, 35 sectors per track, and it
  28. does the low-level format thing, and then bombs out on relative block 0.

  30. Unfortunately, I can't get a hold of the guy who formated it originally.
  31. (but it was labeled as a TOSHIBA!)

  33. Can anyone even explain what's happening, let alone a solution?
  34. (incidentally, my system is a 4/110. I tried formatting it on someone
  35. else's 3/50, but that didn't work either. same error)
