  16. We have just recently purchased a DTKStation 2 running Solaris
  17. (SunOs 4.1.2).  Unfortunatley, one of our 'neophyte' assemblers
  18. has had a fiddle, and has erased the /etc directory from SUnOs. 
  19. (which basically, makes our $8000 equipment, useless, without ls etc...)
  20.  
  21. However, we do have a 1.44Mb drive in the Station][, but were supplied
  22. Solaris on CD-ROM.  We have obtained a Sony CDU-541 (I think its a 541, 
  23. definitely it is a sony (not nec :-)  Been there, done that...))

  25. However, if we leeeeeave the HDD plugged into the SCSI bus, we cannot
  26. access the CD-Rom, and if we remove the HDD, and allow the Station][
  27. to boot off Prom, and we enter 'b cdrom' we get
  28.  
  29. 'Invalid Magic Number'
  30. 'Invalid label (something like this... DFefinitely above line though'

  33. If _ANYONE_ could give us any ideas regarding reloading SunOs back
  34. onto the system, I'd be GRATEFUL
  35.  
  36. (obtw:  The Sony CD-ROM is SCSI-ID 6, with Parity On.)

  38. Our boss is a little annoyed, with having paid $8000+ for equipment
  39. which we haven't been able to use for its true purpose.
