- Hi all.
-
- Can someone give me a clue?
- I have a SuperMac 330M HD with the 50-pin Centronics connector and I am
- trying to hook it up to my Sun SPARC. Anyways,l I built a cable for it
- that doesn't seem to work. (The SPARC uses the 3-row of pins style of
- 50-pin connector) At any rate, I wired the cable 1-1 IE, Pin 1 to Pin 1,
- Pin-2 to Pin-2, etc, you get the idea.. Through all 50 pins... Now,
- I looked at the pin-outs for the Mac connector and the pin-outs for the
- SPARC connector and they seem to be one in the same. The Sparc Pin-1
- does the exact same function as the MAC Pin-1. So what gives? When I
- hook the drive up to my SPARC and turn on the system, the SPARC boots up
- and then sits there for an infinite amount of time, doing nothing.
- The last message it displays from my Prom setup is b st(0,0,0)vmunix.
- Then it just sits there. I was told that the MAC drive is self-
- terminating so I shouldn't really need the terminator on it.. Yes, I
- have tried it both with and without the terminator and it gets the
- same results. So what is the problem? Any thoughts, hints, ideas, etc?
- Thanks in advance.

- I don't think you should look to closely on the pin numbering of the
- two types of connectors. I just checked the pin numbering of the 50
- pin D-sub (3 rows) used in some suns and they are definitely not the
- same as the Micro Ribbon connector used in macs. The easiest way to
- connect the two is to use 50 wire flat cable and crimp style
- connectors. Orient the connectors so that pin 1 of both connectors are
- the same and you will get the rest of pins correct.
