- We recently installed the OpenLook GUI version of FrameMaker 3.1 (3.1ol)
- on a SPARCstation 1+ running SunOS 4.1.1 and OpenWindows 3.0.
- We have found that running 3.1ol prevents another third-party product from
- running. Neither SunView FrameMaker 3.0 nor the X version of FrameMaker 3.1
- cause this problem, only 3.1ol.
-
- The other product provides facilities for acquisition and analysis of data
- from laboratory instruments. Here are the error messages we get from it
- after running 3.1ol:
-
- nghoff@albert 49> vn
- VNX: starting VNMR
- X Error: BadAccess
- Request Major code 89 ()
- Request Minor code 0
- ResourceID 0x0
- Error Serial #92
- Current Serial #93
- nghoff@albert 50>
-
- Vn normally displays 3 windows: input, graphics, and text.
- When this error occurs, the input and text windows appear,
- the error messages are generated, then the windows disappear.
-
- The problem appears to have something to do with the window manager.
- If we set the DISPLAY environment variable to use another machine's
- console, vn works fine. If we go to a remote machine and set its DISPLAY
- variable to use the problem machine's console, vn exits on the remote
- machine as described above.
-
- Once we have run 3.1ol, vn will not run, even after 3.1ol has exited.
- We must exit OpenWindows altogether and restart it with the "openwin"
- command for vn to work again.
-
- Does anyone know what the above error messages mean?
