- We are currently using version 6.12 of K-talk/K-spool from Mt. Xinu (or
- I suppose it is really Xinet) to provide printing services from our 23
- Sun workstation network to Apple Laserwriters on an apple talk
- network. Our typical print job (from the Unix(tm) side) is a few pages
- of text with occasional graphics. The Solaris 2.0 versions of K-talk
- and K-spool will be available to us (when it becomes available (when is
- that?)) for about $300, but we have been looking at the Sitka product
- that should provide us with the same functionality for about $500.
- Assumedly, because Sitka is a Sun subsidiary, they may have be able to
- put a solaris product to market faster than the competition.
-
- Is anybody using the Sitka product now? What are your impressions of
- it and, if possible, how does it compare to the Mt. Xinu product?
- Should we bag Mt. Xinu and use the Sitka product and do they have a
- working Solaris 2.0 version? Does the Sitka product offer any
- advantages to us over K-talk/K-spool?
-
- Please send replies to derekt@stpaul.gov.
-
- Thanks,
-
