- Hello All,
-
- I have a friend that has a Sun 3/260 running SunOS 4.1.1_U1 with
- a Sun SCSI-3 controller (SCSI-3 as in model number not SCSI-3 spec).
- He cannot get a Seagate Wren 7, 1.2GB SCSI disk (aka Sun-1.0G) or
- a Seagate Wren 9 1.8GB SCSI disk to run connected to the SCSI-3 controller.
- Under his OS the SCSI-3 controller shows up as a si type controller/driver.
- He can format/partition/label the drive okay, but under newfs he gets
- sporatic errors. Sun told him that he cant run a disk larger that 1GB on
- that system. I know thats not correct because I know I have heard of
- other folks with this type setup run these drives okay, at least the Wren 7.
- Heck I have an old 3/50 running SunOS 4.1.1b and I can run Wren 7, Wren 9 and
- Hitachi DK516C-16 1.6GB SCSI disk drives without incident. My on-board
- controller is under the si driver as well.
-
- Question 1: Whats the difference between 4.1.1b and 4.1.1_U1 ?
-
- Question 2: Even though Sun is abandoning future support for the Sun 3
- class of machine does anyone out there have a drive larger
- than 1GB running on a setup similar to the one above?
-
- Question 3: In futher troubleshooting the situation my friend found that
- the TERMPWR fuse on the SCSI-3 board was blown and that some
- of the SCSI lines on the board were opens instead of grounds.
- When he told Sun "I know its my controller, its bad" They said
- "No, its a over 1GB drive problem." Are the above signal line
- findings normal for the Sun SCSI-3 controller?
- (i.e. Opens instead of grounds like they're supposed to be per
- ANSI SCSI-1/SCSI-2 specifacations.)
-
- Thanks in advance for any help in this matter. Please reply via Email if
- possible...
