- I've just installed the libc jumbo patch, 100532-2, and I can't figure
- out why Sun doesn't use the ability to have different versions of the
- same shared library active simultaneously.
-
- This patch replaces the old libc (v 1.7) with a new one with the same
- major/minor version number. The procedure to install this patch
- requires a reboot. If they had used version 1.8 instead this would
- have been unnecessary and users of the shared libc would have phased
- over to the new one whenever they start up a new process that uses
- libc. Then the old libc could have been removed after the last process
- using it had exited.
-
- What is the rationale for this?
